Mostafa El-Sharkawy, ABD

Mostafa El Sharkawy studies governance, public opinion, and social cohesion across the Gulf and the wider Middle East and North Africa (MENA). He holds an M.A. in Political Science from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, where he is a Ph.D. candidate in comparative politics and quantitative methodology, and earned a B.A. (Hons.) in International Relations and Public Policy from the University of Toronto. His expertise includes computational text-as-data, machine learning, spatial analytics, and causal inference. His research combines qualitative fieldwork with local elites with large-scale geo-located social-media analysis and machine learning to track how institutional regulation affects public sentiment and societal resilience. His work has been supported by the American Political Science Association, the Center for Political Studies, the Global Islamic Studies Center, and the Institute for Humane Studies.
